Sami Blood | Movie Trailer Review 2017

Sami Blood (Swedish name: Sameblod) is a Swedish coming-of-age drama movie directedandwritten by Amanda Kernell, at her debutfilm. The first 10 minutes of the movie comes directly from the short film StoerreVaerie.StoerreVaerie is Kernell's1st movie with Sami themes. The movie is set in Sweden concerns a 14-year-old girl who experiences superstition at a nomad school for Sami children, and fix to escape her city and disavow her Sami heritage.This story are inspired by Kernell's own grandmother. The movie was released in USA on June 2nd, 2017.

78-year-old Ella-Marjacome back to Lapland, and her infancy society, with her child, Olla, and granddaughter Sanna, to attend her younger sister's funeral. Ella-Marja doesn't want to be stay there. She doesn't like the Sami society, she calls them thieves and liars, and even though her first language is Southern Sami, she refuses to speak it and pretends to not understand it. She even refuses to spend the night at her late sister's family home and rather check into a hotel.
In 1930's, 14-year-old Ella-Marja is sent to the nomad school with her smallest sister Njenna. It's a sort story of boarding school for Sami childs where a blond master  from SmÃ¥land teaches them Swedish, and to know their space. Speaking Sami, even just between themselves beside of the classroom, results in beatings.
