Gloriously and winning alive, Sean Baker’s The Florida Project is a unforgotable poignant look at childhood. The imagined utopia of Disney World, The Florida Project set
during the summer 6-year-old Moonee and lives her mother Halley in a
community of extended-stay motel guests in pastel-streaked Orlando.
The two live at a budget motel week
to week, but despite these surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee is
filled with joy. Moonee and her ragtag playmates fearlessly explore the unique world
into which they’ve been thrown. As Moonee and Halley make the most of
each day including their alternately friendly and argumentative encounters with
the motel’s stern but compassionate manager. The Florida Project demonstrates
that anywhere can be a Magic Kingdom, it just depends how you see it.
