The biopic was once a rather schlocky genre. That was back in the day when every movie biography had to tell a person’s whole life tale from soup to nuts. The biopic grew much artful when it started to focus on single intense sections of a famous person’s life like. In Final Portrait, Stanley Tucci, in 10 years it is his directing 1st movie, takes the biopic to an even more exquisitely homespun level of  little close-up.


Watching Final Portrait, get only random bits and pieces of Giacometti’s life story. But in another way the film bites off a whole chunk of his life and presents it to you just as it might have happened.
